Actions from the previous meeting
- A note to plot holders about keeping paths and vehicle access clear was carried forward for Geoff.
- Councillor Rachel Eden visited the Seed Swap social on 25 April and toured the site. Lyn would follow up about plot 14.
- The proposed exit mirror was to be raised with Michelle Hope when she visited.
Wildlife and chemicals
Following the discovery of a dead cat and bird, the committee agreed to send a gentle, general reminder to be mindful of wildlife and other animals when using chemicals. There was no evidence establishing the cause of either death.
Action: Geoff to combine this with the paths reminder and information about social events.
Social activities
- Wednesday 24 June from 6.30pm: a tour of the site to choose a “Best Kept Plot”, or similar.
- Sunday 23 August from 2.30pm: a produce competition for the tallest, biggest, longest, strangest and funniest entries.
A poster was needed to advertise both events.
Plot 14
Councillor Rachel Eden had asked the allotment team to look kindly on the rubbish-clearance situation. The committee agreed that rubbish could be moved from the new plot 14a onto plot 14 so 14a could be allocated. Members could take some rubbish to the tip when possible, and the Allotment Officer could be asked whether tip charges could be waived for a self-clearance.
Plot allocation
Four plots had recently been reallocated. Four more were awaiting allocation, although the council had requested a pause while it caught up with administration. Further plots appeared not to be worked and might become available after annual invoices were issued.
Communal shed
Barge boards and clips were needed for the guttering, along with something to raise the water butts. Dave offered to source pallets and Lorraine would speak to John about the guttering. Painting the door and damaged sign, and asking Michelle about the barbed wire, were also suggested.
Next meeting
15 August at 10.30am, to plan for the event on 23 August.
